Select Mac OS Extended as the format when asked. This will erase everything on the drive, so be sure anythig you do not want to lose has been archived off and/or copied to the new drive.īoot the machine to the OS 9 Install CD, then run Drive Setup from the Utilities folder on the CD. The simplest way to clear the old 10GB drive is to use OS 9's Drive Setup to re-initialize the drive, while the machine is booted to an appropriate version OS 9 Install CD. In either case, select Mac OS Extended as the format. You can use OS 9's Druve setup to do the work, in which case OS 9 drivers are installed automatically or use OSX's Disk Utility to do it, in which case make sure the option to install OS 9 drivers is selected. This will erase the drive, so if you elect to do that, be sure to back up anything you do not want to lose. If that method does not work to get OS 9 drivers onto the drive, there is no way short of re-initializing and reformatting the drive to get there. If this works, the drive should appear on the desktop (you may need to help it by selecting Mount Volume from the Functions menu) if it doesn't work, no harm done (the two functions, Update Driver and Mount Volume, are not destructive - that is, they do not alter the data on the drive). You should be able to give it a try while booted to OS 9 on the hard drive - run Drive Setup, select the drive in the list presented then select Update Driver from the Functions menu. It pretty much depends upon whether the drive might have had those drivers installed in the past it won't hurt to try it.
